ISABELA ISLAND
Isabela (Albemarle) is the largest island in Galapagos with an area of 1,792 miles. It’s a piece of paradise in Ecuador with a lot of activities to do for adventures who likes beautiful beaches, hike to one of the biggest volcanos in the world, swim or dive in the ocean or be in contact with unique and exotic animals in their own habitats like Galapagos doves, land iguanas, penguins, crabs, lion seas, Galapagos tortoises, Galapagos hawks, Darwin finches, pelicans, and flamingoes.
Puerto Villamil
Puerto Villamil is an enchanted townsite located at the southeastern of the island, with its long, white- sand, beaches and beautiful lagoons frequented by pink flamingoes, common stilts, gallinules, whimbrels, white-cheeked pintails. The majority of Isabela’s residents live in the port town of Villamil.
Vicente Roca Point
The geological formations are incredible for pictures in this spot at the volcano´s caldera. The principal reason is the beautiful backdrop for numerous nesting birds, including gulls, Nazca boobies, Masked, Blue-footed, storm petrels, and Brown Noddy Terns.
Tagus Cove
This old and nice site is located west Darwin Volcano was the favorite site of the early whalers and pirates from 1800s. It’s a perfect place for viewing land birds, including hawks, large-billed flycatchers ground and tree finches, yellow warblers, land iguana and giant tortoise, and if you are lucky, the woodpecker finch. A long ride along the cliffs provides viewing of the geologic features as well as native penguins and fascinating bird species.
Urbina Bay
Urbina Bay is the result of an uplift of the island in 1954, stranding the coral heads above sea level with the new coastline more than 2 miles away. It’s perfect for a hike and appreciate vegetable formations, pumice rocks, and lava and coral into a lift where land iguanas are relaxing.
Elizabeth Bay
The spectacular lagoon at Elizabeth Bay is located on Isabela Island west shore with many red and black mangroves surrounding. Visitors have a big chance to observe many penguins, pelicans, rays, flightless cormorants, sea lions, lava herons, and other fascinating species.
Moreno Point and Wetlands
At first glance, Moreno Point seems to be a lifeless lava flow typical in Galapagos. However, its black surface at the base of Cerro Azul is dotted with numerous lagoons containing an enormous variety of animal life and species like paint-billed crakes, white- cheeked pintails, flamingoes, and gallinules. The trail to walk through Wetlands is very hard and complex, but after a walk, you will feel the real wildlife. It’s an spectacular point with a large four mangroves forest and at the end of the road has hidden a pool formed with lava tunnel for unforgettable memories and great pictures.
Los Tuneles
Los Tuneles is one of the most famous spots on the Islands for snorkeling close to sea lions, white sharks, seahorses, and feel likes this incredible marine species in their own habitat.
Wall of tears
A historical site, built by the prisoners to keep them busy. It is a testament to a period of cruelty and torture for bad boys in the island.
Tortoise Breeding Center
The Tortoise Center of Isabela (also known as Interpretation Center) is the home of this lovely animal. Tourists have the opportunity to hatchlings giant tortoises and the older breeding animals and explore beautiful gardens full of native plants as palo santo, Galapagos croton, thorn scrub, mesquite, manzanilla, prickly-ash, and more.
Sierra Negra Volcano
It´s one of the most impressive volcanoes in the world. Visits to Sierra Negra require four hours to hike to the crater with spectacular views of the volcanoes of Fernandina and Isabela.
Concha de Perla
It’s a relax bay located in the Port of Villamil. Ideal for swim and snorkel with turtles, sea lions, frigate birds, tropical fish, flamingos, and to observe more than 20 bird species.
